I was asked by a colleague if I could paint the view from the school's cricket pavilion for a retirement present. I said I would have a go, but to have something else in mind in case it doesn't work out!
I have a set of watercolours and so 'googled'
lots and lots of youtube videos for ideas and starting points. I liked the idea of drawing the scene first (I could rub out all my mistakes) and then put washes of colour over it.
The drawing went well, but I used the wrong paper; the surface buckled and started to bobble up and disintegrate when I applied the paint. After some tears and a few choice words, I started again with proper cold pressed water colour paper and phew.... it worked! I am really pleased with the result and have now given it a mount and framed it. Happy Retirement Julian. x
